NESIPHO II: A night of Gifts and Healing

Saturday the 6 of October 2018 w ill go down as the day Cape Town entertainment and lifestyle scene was injected with the spirit of giving and healing without compensation. Food, home brewed beer, poetry and cultural ritual came together under one roof to give life to Nesipho II. Gourmet Chef Sinesipho Baduza, supported by Zipho Kati of Zika Crowned (a space created as a platform to create spaces and tell the story of those spaces),have brought to life the eclectic social gathering in the heart of the cities creative hub of Woodstock.

NESIPHO is a celebration of the gifts channelled through us and handed down between generations. Featuring music, poetry, food and art that speaks to the many talents that we as Africans hold, Chef Baduza shared her own gift for creating vibrant and contemporary flavours laid over Afrocentric foundations."My biological father named me Nesipho when I was born, according to my mother, who insisted on Sinesipho instead. 'Nesipho' means 'with a gift.' At the time I was cooking for friends every Friday, and these friends would come together to express whatever gifts they were discovering within themselves on their personal journeys. Sometimes there would be music, or painting or the like, and it was an ancestral experience for me. I believe we were all born with certain abilities or gifts, an its our purpose on this earth to find out what those are."

This installation of Nesipho saw Chef Baduza collaborate with Lethu Tshabangu of Ukhamba Beerworx and Tapiwa Guzha of TAPITAPI for a culinary journey that explores a unique marriage between the standard food, beverage and dessert. This trifecta highlights African traditions and pays homage to ingredients that are unique to Southern Africa and/or are prevalent in Southern African cuisine, presenting them to diners with a modern interpretation. The Nesipho event as a whole presents a space where people can come in search of their own gifts, or to share ones that already might be, or to otherwise give thanks to the ones that have gone before. The evening will also saw various artists showcase their gifts including visual interventions by ZikaCrowned as well as poetry by Vuyokazi Ngemntu, all tied together by sound curated by That Guy Sbu to create a space for healing and sharing. Cape Town creative and entertainment scence will never be the same. This is a gift that will last generations to come, an aslo inform the helaing process mordern city dwellers connect with through arts and entertainment culture.

Look out for the next installation and be ready to recieve and give to those around you.
